The plant has an installed capacity of 20 MW and produces around 55 GWh per year, meeting the energy needs of more than 23,000 households, thus avoiding the emission of around 22,000 tonnes of CO₂ into the atmosphere each year.
Milan, 28th December 2023 – Edison announced it has signed a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the FERA Group (Fabbrica Energie Rinnovabili Alternative / Alternative Renewable Energy Factory) to manage energy produced by a wind farm with an installed capacity of 20 MW, in the province of Savona, Liguria.
The agreement, which has a five year duration, provides for Edison to utilise all renewable energy generated by the plant (certified by relevant certificates of origin), which the Group will manage commercially and then resell to customers who are interested in a renewable supply contract; while FERA will retain the operational management and maintenance of the asset. Thanks to this agreement, the plant, which is already in operation, will not benefit from the incentive scheme for renewable energy sources. According to estimates, the wind farm subject to the agreement has an average production of 55 GWh per year, equivalent to the energy needs of about 23,000 households, thus avoiding the emission of the equivalent of over 22,000 tonnes of CO₂ into the atmosphere each year.
“We end 2023 as an industry leader, with a portfolio that, in recent months, has been significantly strengthened in terms of managing and selling renewable energy to its customers. Thanks to such agreements, on the one hand we are able to support the installation of new renewables and on the other hand we are able to offer increasing volumes of green energy to consumers who are becoming more evolved and attentive to the impact of their daily activities, in line with the decarbonisation objectives of the energy transition”, says Fabio Dubini Executive Vice President of Edison’s Gas & Power Portfolio Management & Optimization.
“We are pleased with this agreement between two companies who are committed to contributing to the decarbonisation process through the development and use of renewable energy. This PPA enhances our work to develop renewable energy sources in Italy, and encourages us to continue along this path, which we have been following for over twenty years. The ‘Cascinassa’ wind farm is the penultimate of fourteen wind farms built by the FERA Group,’ commented Luigi Pennisi, CEO of Aleramo SRL, the Group company which owns the wind farm.
In 2023, Edison signed five PPAs totalling 500 GWh, provided by photovoltaic and wind power plants in Lazio, Sicily, Emilia Romagna and now Liguria. In October 2023, it signed an agreement with the German renewable energy fund manager KGAL, KGAL ESPF 4, to construct a photovoltaic plant of approximately 150 MW; then, again in October, with a leading international investment fund for an 87 MW plant; while in November it signed two PPAs for a 22 MW wind power plant and a 7 MW photovoltaic plant with a Joint Venture between the GR Value Group and its partner Swiss Life Asset Managers; and, finally, in December 2023, the last PPA of the season for a 20 MW wind power plant was signed with FERA.
Negotiating contractual terms between the parties for Edison was carried out by the Power Origination team supported by the Legal & Corporate Affairs divisions, while Dentons Law Firm and Antonio Schiavo, partner of Koinè Società tra Avvocati srl assisted FERA’s negotiation team.
