The Valbormida wind farm went into operation in 2009, and extends north-east of the village of Montenotte Superiore, along the ridge bordering Albisola Superiore, in the area between La Crocetta and Cima della Biscia, and is entirely in the municipality of Cairo Montenotte.
Six ENERCON E53 800 kW wind turbines, with an installed total of 4.8 MW, are located in a wooded area (beech coppice).
In 2008, Valbormida was the largest wind farm to be built in Liguria, and when it came into operation together with the wind farm in La Rocca, the Liguria Region doubled its production of electricity from wind power, going from 9 to 18 wind turbines installed within its territory in just a few months.
In 2021, Legambiente included the Cairo Montenotte plant in its ‘Tourist Guide to Wind Farms’.
