A cutting edge wind farm that will produce clean energy for more than 56,000 families.
Libreccio SRL has brought into operation a new wind farm in Mazara del Vallo, in the province of Trapani. The “Vento di Vino 2” wind farm represents a significant step in the development of renewable energy in Sicily and is contributing to the achievement of European decarbonisation targets, .
The project was financed through an agreement entered into by the European Investment Bank (Banca Europea per gli Investimenti – BEI), Natixis Corporate & Investment Banking (Natixis CIB) and Libeccio SRL, a company owned by the FERA Group and Byom SRL.
The wind farm comprises of 7 Vestas EnVentus V162 turbines, each with a capacity of 6.4 MW, for a total capacity of 44.8 MW. Once fully operational, the plant will generate enough renewable energy to meet the annual electricity needs of over 56,000 Italian households, making a substantial contribution to the country’s energy transition.
The V162-6.4 MW™ is a next generation wind turbine from the EnVentus platform, designed to deliver high performance and outstanding versatility across a wide range of conditions. Thanks to its advanced design, outstanding versatility and low noise levels, with a standard sound power of 104.8 dB(A), combining high performance with careful consideration for the surrounding environment.
The energisation activities of the HV/MV substation were carried out by PLC System S.r.l., a company directly controlled by PLC S.p.A. The works involved the upgrading and reinforcement of the existing substation to enable the integration of the energy generated by the new “Vento di Vino 2” wind farm into the grid. This new plant complements the already operational “Vento di Vino” bringing the total authorised capacity to 68.4 MW.
During the construction phase, more than 270 jobs were created, providing a positive economic boost to the local economy. The initiative further supports the achievement of REPowerEU plan’s objectives and reinforces the European cohesion policy, promoting sustainable and resilient regional development.
With “Vento di Vino 2”, the FERA Group and BYOM are strengthening their commitment to develop cutting edge wind farms, contributing to national energy security and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, in line with European strategies to combat climate change.
Sebastiano Falesi, member of the Board of Directors of the FERA Group and LIBECCIO commented: “This collaboration between leading industrial and financial partners has made it possible to deliver a state-of-the-art infrastructure, combining innovation, reliability, and respect for the environment. We will continue to support initiatives that accelerate the energy transition and strengthen the country’s energy security.
Massimiliano Salvi, CEO of Byom and chairman of LIBECCIO, stated: “with the commissioning of the ‘Vento di Vino 2’ wind farm we are taking a significant step towards a more sustainable and resilient energy system. This project represents not only a strategic investment in renewable energy but also a tangible contribution to the economic and social development of the Sicilian region”.
Francesco Amati, Head of Vestas Italy, commented: “ The commissioning of Vento di Vino 2 demonstrates how next generation wind technology can make a tangible contribution to Italy’s energy transition goals. The installation of seven 6.4 MW V162 turbines from the EnVentus platform combines high energy performance, long term reliability, and careful integration with the local environment. We are proud to support Libeccio, the FERA Group, and BYOM with a solution designed to create lasting value and deliver clean energy in Sicily.”
LIBECCIO is a company owned by the FERA Group (81.55%) and BYOM (18.45%).
The FERA Group has been operating in the renewable energy sector since 2001, focusing on the development and management of power generation plants, including wind farms, in line with the principles of efficiency and sustainability and respect for local communities and territories.
To date, the Group has installed a total capacity of 250 MW across 19 renewable energy plants – spanning wind, biogas and small-scale hydropower – with an annual electricity production exceeding 300 GWh.
The Fera Group markets the energy it produces through Click to Green, develops electric vehicle charging infrastructure through RICARICA, which currently includes more than 130 charging points, including along motorways, and supports companies in their energy efficiency journeys through EA – Energy Awareness.
All the Group’s activities are carried out in accordance with high standards of quality and sustainability, in line with best practices recognised at both national and international level.
BYOM is a consulting and investment company primarily active in the renewable energy and infrastructure sectors. It has been operating since 2009 and is supported by a team of more than twenty professionals with significant and complementary experience in industry, energy, infrastructure and consulting.
In addition to providing technical advisory and due diligence services, BYOM currently manages more than 250 MWp of renewable energy assets and 39 special purpose vehicles (SPVs) acting as both technical and financial asset manager.
Since 2019, the company has renewed its development activities in renewable energy projects (PV, wind and BESS), both on its own behalf and for third parties, with a total capacity of approximately 900 MWp. Since 2021, through its subsidiary Fusion, BYOM has become one of the leading companies in the field of energy autonomy and energy communities, covering the entire value chain – from feasibility studies to the construction and plant operation – with a pipeline of around 40 MWp.
